My DAY ONE: How will Hillary handle the 3 AM phone call about BP’s oil spill?

As posted on Facebook:

If Hillary is potus, here’s how quickly she will respond to this spill from DAY ONE.

Her red phone is right beside her bed and will answer that 3 AM phone call. Her chief of staff Cheryl Mills called to report the BP spill and the loss of lives. She asked Cheryl to give her the phone nos. of the families. Then she called the WH switchboard to get her the chief of the Coast Guard to get a brief assessment, commanders of ships in gulf area, cabinet people (not czars) to step up and meet her at the gulf by daylight. Meanwhile, Pres. Clinton gets up to brew coffee and heat some cinnamon buns at the family kitchen.

After she hang up, she had the operator call the BP ceo to meet her at daylight along the gulf (she won’t need to be served coffee, she’ll bring her own from the coffee pot made by Pres. Clinton at the WH family kitchen with a cinnamon bun. He knew it will be a long day from then on). While she was taking a quick shower, her phone rang, it was Cheryl who said the list of phone nos. are with her personal secretary, ready to make the calls to the families, and that the helicopter and Air Force One have been coordinated by the Secret Service. She then told Cheryl to have the Secretary of Protocol cancel all the social events, to be rescheduled until further notice.

While continuing to dress, she called Chelsea to tell her where she’s going and that she reviewed the wedding invitations last night and they look great! She then called her mom Dorothy to give her daily love and to tell her not to forget her dental appt.; she then  told the housekeeper to let her neighbor in to take her mom to the dentist. Meanwhile, she told Pres. Clinton to go back to Haiti and CGI (no politics, Bill!).

By the time she finished putting on her old and grabby-looking jeans and nautical tee shirt, the helicopter was parked on the lawn ready to transport her to Air Force One. Her favorite old boots that she wore when Chelsea was in grade school in Little Rock was parked in her seat. Her mother’s old straw hat was also ready for her. She said it makes her feel close to her mom in her travels.

And off she went aboard Air Force One to travel to the gulf at daylight on that same day, to see first hand the oil spill coming from five thousand feet below. While on board, she called the families of the victims and offered her thoughts and prayers to them. On landing, she was met by the Coast Guard chief and BP ceo and their respective cohorts. She quickly asked questions and listened thoroughly, asked for suggestions. Then she went to talk to the small businesses, the shrimpers, the fishermen, sat down with them to reassure them that this is on top of her priority.

She also got regular updates and calls to action on the neighborhoods suffering from storm floodings in the mid-west from the governors directly, and with the head of FEMA.

At the end of that day, no beachside photo op statements, just calls to action, helping and feeling the pain of the commonfolks! Meanwhile, her WH staff was busy working to get information from BP, other oil companies and domestic and foreign experts on how to stop the spill, clean up and lessen the impact on the natural resources.

This is my DAY ONE! What’s yours?

  1. I published this Day One on my Facebook Notes almost a month ago and got good reviews so I thought I’d share it with everyone to read and get the gist of what should have transpired from the day of the spill, not 50 some days later.

It’s not openly discussed but the shrimpers and fishermen offered to help immediately but were turned down for one reason or another. Eventually they were allowed to help as volunteers. Other countries with experts who are familiar with this kind of problem were also turned down. Apparently, it was because the unions did not want to give up the authority.

At the risk of sounding redundant, this is a classic example of lack of experience, lack of understanding of the need for action and bending the rules to accommodate the unions at the expense of the public. Sadly, unions rule inside this WH.

    • I hope this latest attempt to stop the leak works for the sake of our natural resources, small businesses and the public.

  2. When we found out that it took 50 days for him to contact the CEO of BP, we knew that he definitely wasn’t prepared for a 3 p.m call much less a 3 a.m. call. And then yesterday Michelle makes a big deal about encouraging folks to use the Gulf for vacationing on the same day it is announcced that they will vacation in Maine. Hypocrits!

You can almost imagine the 2012 campaign ad that is now posssible.

Thank you for this post–we agree that Hillary would have done better. We saw her after 911 with Rudy. Using Hillary’s words “Shame on you Mr. President for your lack of empathy and inexperience.”

I have a William Sonoma class this morning Will BBL. Do you think Mary is sleeping under the stars? It poured here last night–I hope they are having better weather.

  3. Hello all! His lack of experience has been showing through and through, but I do think that it is more than that. He did manage pulling off a flawless campaign, though it was flawed with corruption. He had many supporters in high places. It all fell apart within a very short time. Maybe he really had no idea how difficult being President would be, but I think he just doesn’t care enough to really do what it takes. Vacationing in Maine? Is he kidding? The Gulf, two wars, global recession and many other things needing attention. He can vacation all he wants when he is out of office.

  4. Good morning, villagers. It seems that when things tough, the totus goes on vacation, meaning he has 2 ++ years more of vacation time at our expense, in the midst of crises.

  5. Obama Brings In Clinton For Job Creation Meeting
Former President To Join Obama, Biden At White House For Meeting
With his disapproval rating at an all-time high, President Obama is bringing in the big guns.

A new CBS News poll found that 54 percent of those surveyed said they disapprove of the President’s dealing with the economy, and The White House is now seeking help from former President Bill Clinton in its efforts to create jobs.

Clinton will join President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House on Wednesday for a meeting with business leaders . The White House says the meeting will focus on new ways to create jobs in the private sector.

The leaders will also discuss ways to increase new investments in the clean energy industry.

    • CT, inviting Pres. Clinton is clearly showing his inexperience and lack of knowledge. He and his family should start to pack their bags to go to Chicago, with her mother-in-law, living in the people’s house for free. Taking a luxury vacation at every whim.

  6. Good Morning, Villagers…a wisp of fog clearing out early, leading to a sunny day, highs a bit warmer, expected around 85 degrees!

Yesterday, 80 police officers were laid off at the Oakland Police Dept….the city is broke and the union couldn’t come to an agreement to prevent the lay offs. This is only a small example of what’s going on. Three fire stations are closing in Vallejo, cities are broke and can’t afford even necessities any longer. This is where spending beyond one’s means leads…it’s the same for cities, towns, states and people. California is broke beyond repair…at the moment…there will be better days ahead, however, I fear they are way out in the distance!!

Every time I hear Pres. Clinton aiding Pres. Obama I’m reminded of how he was labeled racist by Obama’s campaign…now they use him to appeal to the blue collar middle class voters…how disgusting and I don’t understand why either. It’s not about the Party…it’s about the person. Obama is wrong for America…no matter who he stands next too…his policies are wrong for Americans…you can’t dress him up to make his policies palatable…the majority doesn’t want them!!

    Enjoy the day…

    • Karel, it is beyond belief how the police dept. in Oakland continues to be cut, I mean they have the meanest streets. I told Bob yesterday, how about cutting the administrators, and he said they are the ones making the decisions and will keep their jobs ahead of everyone. So true.

This totus in the WH is simply that, “speech deliver in chief, vacationeer in chief, campaigner in chief.” I’m so ticked off, and MJ is not even around! Where’s MJ? 😦

  7. Here are just a few headlines regarding the upcoming vacation. If I were the Clintons, I would stay an arm’s lengtth from this administration.

    • These tenants in the WH are unbelievable. Vacationing while the gulf oil spill continues, unemployment continues. Pelosi and Reid, stop the bleeding.

  9. Chelsea Clinton Wedding List: Obama, Oprah, Babs
(July 14) — President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Barbra Streisand are on the A list of guests to watch Chelsea Clinton say “I do” at her July 31 wedding to longtime beau Marc Mezvinsky, according to the local newspaper’s big scoop.

The Hudson Valley News also reports that former campaign aides Harold Ickes and Terry McAuliffe have received invitations to the 500-person event in Rhinebeck, N.Y., along with Steven Spielberg, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Ted Turner and former British Prime Minister John Major.

The much-anticipated nuptials will take place at Astor Court, the former estate of John Jacob Astor, a tycoon who died aboard the Titanic. Chelsea, 30, is the only child of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She is a graduate student at the Columbia University School of Public Health.

Mezvinsky, 32, an investment banker, is also from a Democratic political family. He is the son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky. The couple met as teenagers in Washington, D.C., and attended Stanford University together.

    • Sorry, Bob and I didn’t make the list. Wondering if any of the villagers made it. If so, I’ll send my Hillary and Bill books for autograph, just in case.

      • What a list. I do hope they release some pictures, at least of Hillary. Can’t wait to see what she will wear.

      • CT, we great sources for photos and no doubt we’ll get them as they are taken. Wishful and real.

  10. Good night, villagers. Lots of good Clinton news today.

The totus vacations (again) in Maine while the oil spill continues, while unemployment rises, and popularity numbers go down.

I should have some vacation photos posted in a few days. Just getting over some down moments on my brother, but am getting better. Been talking with my other nieces and touching them via Facebook. It’s very helpful.

AP news came down with the first major typhoon that hit close to our region with high winds and flooding and some fatalities.

  11. I’ve been making some Country and Western CDs for my parents. They like falling asleep to the likes of Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Eddy Arnold and Patsy Cline. I also made a set for their car. When I was in high school, my dad would retreat to the basement during the evenings where he would listen to country on an old phonograph. When you have five daughters he needed some solitude.

I was busy today and did not see much news. I was struck this morning by this article in the paper that highlighted the issues that the Iroquois lacrosse team is having their sovereign passports.

Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team asks White House to honor sovereign passports

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/13/AR2010071305993.html

They were rebuffed from boarding a plane at JFK airport in New York on Tuesday, a flight that would have taken them to England for Thursday’s start of the championships in a sport the Iroquois helped invent. But the team remained grounded in New York because of newly strict passport regulations.

When I read stories like this, the entire issue of illegal immigration really bothers me.

    Good night all.

    • Interesting story and I hope they do well in competition. It will be hard however, for any country to recognize these sovereign passports. At work, when dealing with statutory filings and the like, we are now required to have our passports notarized in many cases. In one case, we needed to go to the State department for verification. Things are tough out there.

  12. Good Morning, Villagers…it’s heating up around here, under blue skies, highs expected to reach the mid 90’s or hotter!!

I’ve hit Iron Horse Trail early this morning, at 6:30 for my walk…it’s going to be a scorcher…no fog in sight!

Interesting information on that Iroquois Lacrosse Team…someone dropped the ball on that passport issue…a waiver should be made available and then they should conform with the current passport rules when they return. Times change and so do the rules.

Lots of shade’s in order today…enjoy…

    • Karel, Lanz and I took an abbreviated walk this morning. Will continue on late this pm, perhaps after dinner.

  13. A friend sent me this. Quite remarkable if it works.

If you ever get caught without a corkscrew, you can do this. How to open a bottle of wine with a shoe. Just watch…..you don’t need to understand French.

Are you amazed the Gibbs is still on the job? I just shake my head everytime I see him.

    • Taylor, the gaffes that this WH demonstrate everyday, incl. the totus and Biden, are not being mainstreamed. Come election time, there will be rainstorms.

  14. Good day, villagers. I read the passport situation on the lacrosse team. Although I empathize with the team who are stranded at the airport, someone in the front desk dropped the ball. Everyone travels with the right kind of passport , depending on what citizenship situation. When I read it this morning, that is the correct implementation. In my foreign travels, I stop in different countries for connecting flights and layovers, my passport is my way to my destination and it must be honored. I hope this can be resolved. The local passport office in NYC can be approached with a same day passport service on an emergency basis, depending on the accuracy of the eligibility of the people involved.

    • I thought they did the right thing as well. I just wonder if the government had notified the sovereign passport holders of the law change.

I think the law should be followed. That is what infureates me about the illegal immigration problem. Illegal immigrants on foot should be treated the same as those who are flying. I wonder if we would be so loose with the rules if a plane of illegal immigrants were flying in daily from Mexico City.

  15. BP: No oil leaking into Gulf from busted well

NEW ORLEANS – BP says oil from its broken well has stopped gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April.

The announcement Thursday came after company officials said all valves had been shut on a new cap over the busted well in an experiment to stop the spill.

Kent Wells, a BP PLC vice president, said at a news briefing that oil stopped flowing into the water at 2:25 p.m. CDT.

It was a long-awaited milestone in one of the nation’s worst environmental disasters. While not a permanent solution to plug the busted well, the success in capturing the oil spewing out was welcome news.

The crisis began when BP’s deepwater rig exploded, killing 11 workers.

The cap is not a permanent fix. BP is drilling two relief wells so it can pump mud and cement into the leaking well in hopes of plugging it for good.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — BP says oil has stopped leaking into the Gulf for the first time since April.

BP has been slowly dialing down the flow as part of a test on a new cap. Engineers are now monitoring the pressure to see if the busted well holds.
